The Truth in Conflict
Self-exploration often come with a price. Facing the mirror and seeing what’s really there is not always pleasant or pretty, but the search is for truth–a truth that leads to fulfillment and satisfaction, even in uncomfortable and awkward forms.
It’s not as if the road to self-discovery is an easy one. Being true to yourself is beyond just one individual seeing what’s real. It’s also revealing that authenticity to others at the risk of disapproval. Many who wish to live authentically submit to outside forces and compromises, excusing themselves for who they are to avoid confrontation or conflict. It is then that the self suffers:
- Emptiness
- Loneliness
- Dissatisfaction
- Self-loathing
Daring Uniqueness
Most people choose to follow a crowd because it seems safer, without realizing that the air is fresher when walking a path alone. The thought of being different is sometimes so frightening, it compels individuals to continue in an unhappy life rather than search for true self-meaning. Beliefs and views can narrow in light of public or personal disapproval, binding a person tightly to the very chains that bind him.
